Thistlethorn doesn't really seem like a nice name for these sweet little mice. It's all too... Prickly. And it reminds me too much of Eeyore, and we all know how depressing he is! I quite like this mouse mould, it reminds me of Beatrix Potter. The Thistlethorns do look a lot more like mice than say the Fielding mice do. But I don't think I should concerned about realism when it comes to judging Sylvanian Families.
UK and USA
One of the first families released in 1987 by Tomy. They have the traditional flat hands (because they're old), and two standing babies in solid moulds (no moving around for them!) were released in blue and pink rompers in the US, whilst in the UK the baby girl was in yellow. Both sets are otherwise identical.
Just the UK
Flair re-released the Thistlethorn family in 2003 with the new open hands, and the standing babies (still wearing blue and yellow) had moving arms and legs. The tails on the figures were also made furry, whilst previously they were like hard plastic (very nasty if you get hit in the eye with...)
Japan
This family was first released inbetween 1985-1989, I'm not sure of the exact date. The standing babies were available in three different coloured romper outfits - pink, yellow, and blue.

Thistlethorn Biographies
Chester Thistlethorn is editor of the local newspaper. When there isn't any news he makes it up himself, but always ensures that his stories have a happy ending.
Willow Thistlethorn helps her husband at the local newspaper. Because they are the only two who work there, she's ended up being the chief reporter, the photographer, the typist and sometimes even delivers the newspapers.
Lester Thistlethorn is always playing tricks. Once he jumped out on his sister Prissy and shouted "Boo",so loudly, he frightened himself.
Prissy Thistlethorn sings all the time. She's so happy, she brings a smile to the saddest Sylvanian face, even though her voice is not very good.
