Truffle Wild Boar Family
Whenever I saw promotional pictures of these boars, I thought: "wow, they're almost as ugly as the Pigglywinks!" For those of you who don't know me, I despise the Pigglywink family. They were a Calico Critters' disasterous creation - they used the Forrester dog mould to make horrid candy-floss pink pigs with tiny little black eyes... Ugh, the thought of them makes my skin crawl. My friend Eric threatened he'd buy me them as a wedding gift! I hope he was kidding...
I happened to see the Tomy version of the Truffle family floating around on eBay for £3 or £4, and impulsively decided to buy them. When I got them through the post and opened the package, I was delighted by how cute they were in person. Well, apart from the fact that Mr Truffle rattled, which was somewhat of a novelty to me. Somehow part of the plastic mould had broken off inside, causing him to make a rattling noise whenever I lifted him up or tried to pose him for a photograph. I wrote a story about it here. It's a fairly common problem with older figures, but a couple of new figures I have bought have had the same issue. [You can take the heads off and remove the plastic that's loose inside, however you may rub off the flocking around the neck line if you're not careful]
Back to the original content. These boars were originally released in the UK in 1993 by Tomy, and were later re-released post-1999 by Flair as a whole family. The families as far as I can see only differ in that they have updated clothes i.e velcro, and perhaps a slightly different print on the mother's clothes.

Truffle Biographies
Eustace Barrington Truffle is the Sylvanian dentist. He may look rather frightening with his big, strong healthy tusks and even bigger name, but everyone knows that under that gruff exterior lies a heart of gold. Which is why Sylvanians like going to the dentist!
Victoria Truffle like her darling husband is also a dentist, and possibly the strongest lady in Sylvania. This is lucky as Eustace does not like pulling teeth, so when any wisdom teeth need to come out, it's Victoria who does it!
Felicity Truffle eats her food much too quickly, as she fears if she doesn't her greedy little brother will eat it!
Charlie 'Chocolate' Truffle has been given the nickname 'Chocolate' for a very good reason. He adores it. Charlie's face always seems to be covered in it!
Susan Mary Truffle is a dentist's dream come true! She has perfect teeth, a huge, dazzling smile and no fillings. Susan wants to be a dentist like her daddy but without the tusks!
